Friday 1st June
Whit Friday March Contests
- Saddleworth and Tameside - from 4pm

Often described as 'the greatest free show on Earth', the Saddleworth & District Whit Friday Brass Band Contests take place every year on the afternoon and evening of Whit Friday. The competition sees hundreds of brass bands compete in 22 villages around the Saddleworth and Tameside areas. Last year we returned with two deportment prizes. Determined to put on an excellent marching display we enlisted the help of former Welsh guardsman and Harrogate local Gareth Gibbs who drilled the Band and led them in the marches. As a result we came top at Lees-Springhead and Diggle.

Performing William Rimmer's superb march, Arabian, we competed in seven villages, playing well in each but not quite reaching the heights of the third place which we attained seven years ago at Dobcross. Let's hope we can come back with some prizes again this time.

If you'd like to come on the coach, get in touch with our secretary and we'll see if we can squeeze you in as we love having supporters with us. We'll be leaving the bandroom at about 13:00.

We're operating our popular Juke Box here which means YOU get to vote for a piece of music we must play in the 2nd half. Last year we were surprised that the audience voted for Strauss' Thunder and Lightening Polka!

Holy Trinity has good modern facilities and probably the best acoustic in which to listen to the band. It's also nice and warm with comfortable seats!

Tickets are £6 and £4 for children available on the door.

Plus, why not make a night of it and enjoy a candlelit meal at £10.00 per head during the evening? Sit down at 6.30pm in lovely dining area called The Arches, below the Church for your main course, move into your reserved seats for the concert and then during the Interval have your pudding and tea or coffee in The Arches. Trinity Methodist Church is a friendly church with modern facilities and has been a prominent landmark on the Harrogate Stray since opening in 1879 to serve God and the expanding community of south Harrogate. It was refurbished and re-dedicated last year and is a real asset to the community.
